Update on measles vaccine recommendations:

You have likely heard about the increase in measles cases in North America including Ontario. Thankfully the absolute risk of exposure to measles remains low. Official recommendations for measles vaccination (MMR) remain unchanged. However, if you will be travelling to a region where there are a greater number of measles cases reported you may want to consider the following

  • Infants 6- 11 month can get an early/extra dose of MMR vaccine (two additional doses will still be required after their first birthday).

  • Preschoolers can get their second MMR dose (which would usually be given at age four) early, as long as it is at least 28 days after the first dose (this would not need to be repeated at age four).

  • Pregnant patients cannot get the MMR (live vaccines are contraindicated during pregnancy). Patients who are breastfeeding can be vaccinated with MMR vaccine.

  • Female patients getting the MMR should postpone pregnancy at least 4 weeks after vaccination.

  • All other age groups can get a booster dose of MMR, preferably at least 2 weeks prior to date of travel.

People born before the year 1970 were likely exposed to measles as children and are already immune. For those born after 1970 a total of two doses of the MMR vaccine are recommended. If you had one dose in childhood, one additional dose of MMR is sufficient.

If your immunity status is unknown you can get two doses of MMR vaccine at least 28 days apart.

Note: Vaccination is generally preferred over doing the blood work to check the level of immunity.

For registered Village Family Health Team patients if you or your child requires a dose of the MMR vaccine please contact our clinic to schedule an appointment with one of our nurses. If you are unsure whether you are protected, please also feel free to contact our office and we can advise you.

To our existing patients of Village Family Health Team:

Please avoid walk-in clinics if possible. If you are sick and need to see a doctor/nurse practitioner, please give us a call and we will try our best to accommodate you for a same day urgent appointment. By using VFHT for all your medical needs, you can be assured that your provider will have access to your detailed medical history  and can provide appropriate follow-up care.  Same-day urgent appointments can be booked by calling our office (DO NOT use Medeo to book same day appointments).

Masking Policy Update:

Effective March 24th, 2025, Village FHT will no longer require masking in clinical areas or the waiting room.

We appreciate the cooperation of our patients, staff, and visitors in following our masking policy during periods of heightened respiratory illness. Moving forward, masking will be optional. However, patients and visitors who prefer to wear a mask are welcome to do so, and masks will remain available at reception upon request.

If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, influenza, or any other respiratory illness, we kindly ask that you notify our reception team prior to your visit.

We thank you for your ongoing support.
